I recall my first Marine Corps birthday where I was a participant. I was the youngest Marine at 17 in the unit, the First Sgt at 48 was the oldest. My mission was to cut the cake with Top using an NCO sword. I still recall with a chill Top Perez's words to me spoken in a whisper right before the ceremony, He said, Marine, if you fuck this up, I am going to stick you, with this Big Fucking Knife. Gunny just stood by the side and nodded his head in an affirmative. I did not fuck that up fer shure! Happy Birthday Marines, and Happy Birthday Chesty....where ever you are.
